Europe is at a crossroads. In every corner of our continent immense challenges — from economic inequality and an ageing population, to climate change, insecurity, and the refugee crisis — pose an existential threat to our future.
For too long now, Europe has been sleepwalking towards reliving the darkest moments of its past. But we still have time to change direction. We want you to join us as we take this first step in charting a better course.
Where is it happening?
In May 2019 the first ever WAKE UP EUROPE Festival will combine cutting-edge films, immersive media, journalism, live debate and music — all aimed at inspiring young Europeans to work out how we can tackle the common challenges we face together.
You can be part of the action in person at our core festival in Turin from 17 to 19 May, participate in one of our satellite events in other European countries, or join us on social media and online.
Why now?
Taking place just days before the European elections, the WAKE UP EUROPE Festival will use cutting-edge documentary films to awake civic conscience across our diverse continent and create a shared space for reflection.
The films will focus on some of most pressing issues of our time, offering fresh perspectives on each issue, while exploring what we can do to tackle them on a European level. These films will be presented alongside high-profile debates, and interactive projects and music – to inspire action.
WAKE UP EUROPE will also ask what’s going wrong in the EU, and how can Europe become a lot better in tackling these issues?

How can I get involved?
In addition to the core three day event in the major historic cultural hub of Turin, satellite events will take place across Europe and a series of online actions will open up debate and dialogue to a digital audience.
Would you like to host a satellite event where you are? Just drop us a line at festival@thewakeupfoundation.eu or by following the instructions here.
This unique and ambitious festival is open to all, but we’re particularly keen to welcome first time voters and young citizens of Europe — those whose future will be impacted the most by how we tackle the shared challenges that confront us.
Our aim is to unite and turn up the volume so that new European voices, ready for change, will be heard in Brussels, Strasbourg, Berlin, Paris, Rome and beyond.
