Choose a film from our licensed film list

We’re able to offer a special selection of documentaries from some of the best contemporary filmmakers working in Europe today. Each film has been chosen to reflect a specific theme that we think will be crucial to shaping the future of Europe in advance of the European Parliament Elections. While we’re happy for hosts to arrange multiple screenings, we want each event to spark debate, so we’d encourage you to consider which topic is mostly likely to result in maximum engagement from your target audience or group. Find a venue to screen the film

No venue is too large or too small. Indeed, we want to encourage as broad a diversity of hosts and venues as possible. This could be a village hall, a lecture theatre, or a local cinema. It’s important to assess the number of people you think are likely to attend and (given the quality of our films) that you’re able to ensure equipment is available to provide a good quality audio and visual experience for everyone who attends ( we can guide you if needed with the minimum tech-specs).

Build your event so that it stands out

WAKE UP EUROPE Festival is driven by a desire to foster greater understanding, and to spark debate using the power of documentaries. We want each screening to be a lively, exciting event: perhaps it could feature a post-screening discussion or Q&A with speakers who have something relevant to say about the film’s main theme. Or why not use music and live performance to make the event extra special? We are here to help, having organised hundreds of debates we have learned a few tricks for a successful and lively event which does not end in a shouting match!

Register your event on our website

Once you know what film you want to screen, have confirmed a venue, and made arrangements for a post-screening discussion, you can register your event on our website. Make sure that you include full details of the venue, the full name of your group or association, and the estimated audience capacity for your event. To register, simply go to our registration page and fill in the form. The event will then appear on our interactive map of Europe, allowing members of our online networks to find out about events taking place near them.

Licensing Confirmation

Shortly after you register the event, we’ll get in touch to confirm that we have cleared the relevant title and will forward links to the licensed film in HD, for exclusive educational use at the screening. The films will be available to download via the link, but should not be shared or downloaded other than for the purposes of the registered educational screening event itself. We will also send you artwork and other promotional materials to assist in the promotion of your event. Please note that under no circumstances there could be tickets sales. These films are licensed on the basis of one-off educational screenings, and so all events but be held on a not-for-profit basis. If you need help with the funding of the event you are allowed to collect donations amongst your audience or sell on the side snacks or drinks according to the local regulations.

Spread the word!

We want to make a big noise all over Europe to encourage young people to participate in the European Parliament Elections. So make sure to share your event on social media to spread the word and to connect up the debates and reflections sparked by the films. For example, you could live-tweet the discussion using the #WakeUpEuropeFest hashtag, create a story about your event on instagram, or Livestream the Q+A on Facebook. Mirror Event for the WUE Festival welcomes Manchester! Demsoc presents ‘Freedom of Wolf’

At Partisan Collective on 22 May 2019 at 6.30 - 8.30 pm (TBC)

The Democratic Society will be hosting a free film screening of Freedom of the Wolf as part of the Wake Up Europe! film festival in Manchester on 21st May. Following the film screening, we will have a digital participatory session using Slideo where you can share your thoughts on the themes raised the film.

Ahead of the EU elections, The Democratic Society will be hosting a free film screening of Guardians of the Earth as part of the Wake Up Europe! film festival in Edinburgh on 21st May. Following the film screening, we will have a participatory session where you can share your thoughts on the themes raised the film.
